The only possible confusion in the UK for this big fella, being obviously mainly brown in colour, would be the very much more localized Aeshna isoceles, (Norfolk Hawker). The latter has clear wings rather than brown tinted.
These characters don’t often settle and seem to be easiest to photograph when ovipositing, at least if my collection of pictures is anything to go by.
