Enallagma civile (Familiar Bluet)

As well as being painfully similar to several other Enallagma species found in the USA, this American “bluet” is painfully similar to Enallagma cyathigerum seen commonly in the UK. We found this species at a couple of locations during our late season 2024 visit to Richmond, Va.

Distinguishing features from our own suspect are the (usual) lack of an interocular bar between the postocular spots, along with particularly large upper anal appendages (a.k.a. cerci).
