There are subspecies of this beast but I can’t find that much out about them. In theory, in Australia this is Neurothemis stigmatizans atigmatizans. It exists across the north and norteast of Australia and up into Papua New Guinea together with many of the islands in that neck of the woods.
We saw it quite frequently on out FNQ 2022 expedition but my best photo opportunities came in the Cairns Botanic Gardens and Emerald Creek Falls. A female would have been nice but sadly there isn’t one in my collection.
