Telephlebia tillyardi (Tropical Evening Darner) is a crepuscular “near threatened” species endemic to northeastern Australia. The dark markings on the leading edge of the wings make identifying the genus, at least, quite easy, though homing in on a particular species can be tricky but geographical range helps considerably.
Seeing one of these and eventually managing to catch it on pixels – I was too close with too much lens at first – was quite a thrill. During FNQ 2022 I scared it up during our morning at Davies Creek when it flew across the front of me and settled again. Being crepuscular, it really didn’t want to fly in the morning. Later, we did see another but it got flushed and disappeared.
