Yet another red-bodied male dragonfly form the SE Asia region but then, red is a very popular colour in the European arena, too. This species is said to have “rather ill-defined subspecies”.
Received wisdom is that those in the Singapore region are subspecies U. s. insignata. On the other hand, I’ve found a Cambodian dragonfly website that names some there as U. s. signata. Information on other subspecies seems scant. I’ll keep it simple and leave subspecies out of it.
