These characters are clearly similar to our European Demoiselles and are part of the same family. They also like to hang around clear forest streams, which is a habit shared by Calopteryx virgo (Beautiful Demoiselle), in my experience.
Here you can see the effect of correctly angled flash photography [not sure what the correct angle is – this seemed to be a matter of luck] on the wings of this female, which I imagine leads to both the binomial and vernacular names. If I get a chance, I must try the flash technique on a female C. virgo and, maybe, C. splendens to see if anything similar happens.
