Xanthagrion erythroneurum represents a monotypic genus. It is widely distributed in Australia, occurring in all states. It also occurs in Fiji and New Caledonia. The common name, Red & Blue Damsel, seems always to be written with an ampersand rather than being spelled out. Who am I to be different?
The male is an unmistakable, strikingly colourful critter. We found them at two sites on our 2017 Australian visit but at one, the Winton Wetlands, we saw only a female, though conditions were very windy and not favourable for odo hunting. In 2019 they proved difficult to photograph, staying rather distant.
